BACI Executive Director Honored with the Indiana Senate Proclamation
INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 16, 2019 — Elaisa Vahnie, Executive Director of the Burmese American Community Institute (BACI), was bestowed with the Proclamation from Senator Jack E. Sandlin, of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana on February 12, 2019, for his leadership and service.
Presenting the proclamation on Myanmar Union Day, Senator Jack Sandlin described Mr. Vahnie as a person deeply committed to his people, with a great desire to integrate the Burmese into the community, and an ambitious aspiration to bring the American democratic ideals and values to Myanmar.
The Proclamation reads: “It is my honor to recognize and wholeheartedly thank Mr. Elaisa Vahnie for his service to the Burmese-American population of Central Indiana and across the United States of America.”
“Mr. Vahnie has undeniably had a positive influence on countless individuals and contributed to the betterment of our community and State,” it proclaimed.
“It is a great honor and I am humbled by this recognition, and profoundly grateful to Senator Jack Sandlin and the State leaders for their leadership and for creating a policy environment where everyone is welcome, and all can dream the American dream.”
“This recognition is a recognition of the entire team at BACI, the staff and volunteers, the Board of Directors, the Board of Advisors, and all our partners together who have been working to bring about the positive impact upon our shared community,” said Vahnie.
“Since the inception of BACI in 2011, Elaisa Vahnie has worked selflessly and tirelessly for the betterment of the Burmese-American community. This recognition is more than well deserved. We are all better people because of his example”, said Bonnie Kane, BACI Board member.
