A Campus to Serve Members of the Community in More Impactful Ways.

Dear Friends,

Warmest greetings. We are writing to you to share the good news for our community and request you to support the development of the Burmese Community Center in Indianapolis. With a vision of education for all, a stronger community, and a mission to build a thriving, integrated and developed community through advocacy, education, and employment, the Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) has been putting all its effort to assist our community members in Indianapolis with their self-sufficiency and success.

Since its inception in 2010, we have assisted over 20,000 individuals with Citizenship and English language training, naturalization applications, and other immigration requirements, as well as provided support in gaining employment and training, scholarships, and college & university admissions. Similarly, we provided technical assistance to a number of small business start-ups and organizations including faith-based entities which are an important part of the overall successful integration of the community.

After a decade of resolute advocacy, education and service, we have come to an agreement that we should move a step further not only in a view to sustain these integrative and vital services to our community members, but also to ensure we are responsive to the emerging needs in a comprehensive and innovative ways in an inclusive manner. Accordingly, with consultations with our community and stakeholders, the Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the BACI has agreed to begin plans for the development of the Burmese Community Center facilities for all community members as laid out in the institute’s Strategic Plan 2021-2026. 

Good news! We have now secured a 10 acres property at 5212 & 5246 Bluff Rd for a new Community Center location. The project has been planned in phases. Your giving today will support the implementation of Phase I that includes construction of a Community Hall for educational activities, youth programming, other integration and human services delivery, community gathering, etc. as well as relocation of some of BACI’s administrative offices. We are grateful that the majority of the funding is coming from grants and other sources. But we still need your help!

We will use the facilities to continue helping our children and youth succeed in their education and career by providing comprehensive mentorship services and professional development, seeking more scholarship opportunities and University admissions, delivering citizenship training and naturalization services, ensuring community members have access to gainful employment and opportunities and resources to create and grow their small businesses, and providing basic need assistance and community health services, as well as helping increase cultural and educational exchange programs with Myanmar, ASEAN and global community through expanded collaborative partnerships. This Community Hall will be made available and accessible by everyone and any groups in our community who may need to use it.
