Teaching Fellows

Position: Teaching Fellows with the Teaching Fellowship Program at BACI’s Center for Research, Policy and Innovation (CRPI) in partnership with a new University
Hours: Full-time or part-time (minimum of 20 hours per week for one semester)
Duration: Fall 2021 (with the possibility of continuation to Spring 2022 and beyond)
Pay: Small Stipend Allowance
Location: virtual

The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) is a dynamic, forward-looking, and growing organization. We seek motivated, committed, and enthusiastic candidates to join our dynamic team as Teaching Fellows at the Center for Research, Policy and Innovation (CRPI) in partnership with a University being established.

CRPI facilitates and enables collaborative research and policy action projects with various researchers in Indiana, as well as with Burmese scholars, other international scholars, and scholars across the US whose research and projects might be applicable to the Burmese American community, to Myanmar, and to Southeast Asia.

Building on from 10 years of experiences in teaching and research, in partnership with other institutions, the BACI is in the process of establishing a new University designed to offer degree programs, continuing learning opportunities, and research through high quality academic programs, as well as policy and project development activities for the people of Myanmar and stakeholders in Myanmar.

Teaching Fellows will teach or co-teach one university level online/virtual course in one of the areas of the certification programs being offered. Courses will be of similar nature to those offered by a typical U.S. university.

Qualifications and criteria

  • Fluency in English
  • At least Master’s degree or equivalent experience (current graduate students may be considered). Candidates with doctoral degrees are highly encouraged to apply.  
  • Interested in and passionate about teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to the University’s values
  • Candidates of any nationality will be considered, but candidates in Myanmar and Myanmar diaspora will be given preference
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism, respect, and personal integrity
  • Be a team player; able to collaborate with others
  • Flexibility and availability/willingness to work some weekends

Responsibilities and expectations

  • Teach or co-teach one university level online/virtual course, including course-related administrative work
  • Participate in regular meetings with a team of fellows and instructors
  • Participate in required training sessions
  • Participate in course and program evaluation
  • Assume responsibilities as assigned

  • Will receive a small allowance to cover costs of internet service
  • For fellows based in Myanmar, a monthly stipend of 150,000 MMK/month will be provided
  • Will have the opportunity to serve Myanmar
