Student Application for the National University of the Union of Myanmar Released

January 4, 2022—Indianapolis, IN, USA: The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) today announced the release of the enrollment application for the National University of the Union of Myanmar – Global Campus.

About 30 undergraduate and graduate level courses and nine Certificate Programs are expected to be offered online through the National University of the Union of Myanmar – Global Campus (UUM), a university being developed and designed to provide continuing learning opportunities as well as equitable and high quality academic programs for all Myanmar citizens whose education has been disrupted due to the ongoing crisis. The NUUM will also offer teaching and training opportunities for teachers and emerging leaders through fellowship programs and dynamic research and impactful service projects designed to produce knowledge and policy conversations on the pressing issues surrounding the political and social economic development inclusively for stakeholders in the process of building peace, democracy, and prosperity in the Southeast Asian Nation.

Courses offered through Nine Certificate Programs under the NUUM will be of similar nature to those offered by a typical U.S. university. They include: 1) Law and Political Science, 2) Data Analytics and Project Management, 3) Public Health and Humanitarian Action, 4) Public and Non-profit Administration, 5) Public Policy and Leadership, 6) Education, Human Rights and International Development, 7) Inclusive Education Leadership, 8) STEM, and 9) Social Science.

Collaboratively working with its partners, the NUUM will fully utilize the experience and expertise of the Center for Research, Policy and Innovation (CRPI) while enjoying the support of its collaborators in higher education institutions and expert individuals in the United States and around the world.

The admission criteria for student applicants:

  • High school diploma/GED (completed high school or its equivalent)
  • All nationality (Burmese nationals or Myanmar citizens will be given preference)
  • 18 years of age and above (16 and 17 years old may be given waiver with parental permission)
  • English proficiency requirement: (see details in the application form)

Full scholarship, partial scholarship in the form of both need-based and merit-based scholarships available.

Deadline for submission of the application is: January 18, 2022

Spring 2022 Semester classes begin during the week of January 24.
