Application for CRPI Policy Action Research Released

April 11, 2022—Indianapolis, IN, USA: The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) in conjunction with the National University of the Union of Myanmar (NUUM) today announced the release of the application for the CRPI Policy Action Research Summer 2022 Program with the Center for Research, Policy and Innovation (CRPI).

In this program, researchers and scholars will participate in intensive scientific group research projects from June 6 – August 12, 2022 primarily utilizing participatory action research (PAR) methodology. In consultation with the CRPI Directors and under the leadership of research fellows or lead researchers, teams of 5 to 7 researchers and scholars will form and propose topics for research. Each research team is expected to produce an academic paper that includes its main findings and solution-oriented policy recommendations and present it to relevant stakeholders at the end of the project. Project deliverables include:

  1. A 20-30 page academic paper with policy and action recommendations
  2. An executive summary of the paper that outlines the main findings of the study and policy recommendations
  3. PowerPoint slides for the final research/project presentation
  4. Literature reviewed, documentation relating to the methodology (such as survey forms), and raw data.

The CRPI Policy Action Research will be carried out through NUUM and carries up to 9 credit hours.

Eligibility requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED (completed high school or equivalent). College students and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
  • All nationalities (Burmese nationals or Myanmar citizens will be given preference).
  • 18 years of age and above or 16-17 years with parental permission.
  • Interest in policy- and solution-oriented research.
  • English proficiency. Applicants should submit IELTS/TOEFL scores or any other scores of relevant tests taken in the past five years. Applicants who cannot provide test scores may be required to sit for an English proficiency assessment interview.

Tuition fees at NUUM are $150 per credit hour. Each admitted student will receive a full tuition scholarship in the form of tuition fees remission or waiver for CRPI Summer 2022 (equivalent to $1,350).
