In an effort to support peace and democracy in Myanmar (Burma), the Burmese American Community Institute (BACI), in partnership with co-hosts and collaborators, will be hosting the 4th Spring Flowers International Conference on Myanmar from February 12 to 15, 2025. The conference will bring together local, national, and international actors from diverse backgrounds. Its outcome will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction and vision of the Myanmar democracy movement and the future of Myanmar as we contribute to building a democratic and federal Union of Myanmar. The conference objectives are:

Conference objectives:

  • Promoting critical analysis and deeper understanding of the challenges Myanmar is currently facing,
  • Strengthening a common understanding of the challenges and opportunities in forging a strong and unified response to help resolve the conflict in Myanmar and in developing strategies and approaches to building a new Myanmar, and
  • Bringing together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including elected representatives, government officials, EAOs/EROs, international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), diaspora groups, women and youth groups, rights groups, media, academics, etc. to strengthen a path to achieve a unified vision and strategy.

The program will include (1) keynote speeches, (2) expert panels, (3) panel presentations of academic papers, and (4) roundtable discussions. Musical and cultural performances will also be featured.

With a theme of “Strengthening a Unified Response with Coordinated Strategies to Support Peace and Democracy in Myanmar,” this conference panel and roundtable discussions are will cover the topics and core issues including: 1) Bottom-up Federalism Building through Constitution Design, 2) the Role of the International Community and Geopolitics in Supporting Peace and Democracy,  3) International Sanctions, 4) Humanitarian and Development Aids for Myanmar including Education and Health, and 5) Democratic Institutions and Capacity Building.

Expected outcome of the conference includes generation of innovative ideas that help inform a common vision for a new Myanmar and provide strategic priorities and policy guidance for the democracy movement as well as help find solutions to the ongoing conflict in the country in the short term and the long-term development, peace, and prosperity for a new Myanmar.

This hybrid event – February 12-13 hosted virtually, and February 14-15 organized in-person at the Campus of Indiana University-Indianapolis – will draw hundreds of youths, students and friends of Myanmar from around the world. Some sessions will be live-streamed.

Registration is FREE to make the conference more accessible to all. Registration is good for the entire conference (February 12-15) or parts of it, including the celebration of the 78th Myanmar Union Day on February 15 (February 14 in Myanmar).
