About BACI

Established in 2011, Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides human services, educational and vocational support to the Burmese and immigrants in greater Indianapolis. BACI also supports community members regionally, nationally, and globally through collaborative initiatives, strategic partnerships, and advocacy.

Brief History of BACI

Responding to the increasing needs of additional services to the rapidly growing Burmese and immigrant population in Central Indiana, with a strong conviction of the founding leaders of the need for investing in people and education – and ensuring the community members in becoming successful and productive citizens of the society – Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) was established in 2011 as a result of several years of consultations and deliberation with community leaders and stakeholders.

Responsive to the merging needs and utilizing its unique position and experience, BACI has also been serving other refugee and immigrant populations such as those from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Haiti and many other countries around the world. Consequently, BACI has become a vital community resource hub that assists these populations inclusively with their self-sufficiency and success. It has served 25,000+ immigrants and their families already.

In addition to serving as Private Sponsor Organization (PSO) in 2023 with the Welcome Corps to support and oversee the Private Sponsor Groups (PSGs), BACI has been officially approved by the U.S. Federal Government in FY2024 as a new Reception & Placement thus becoming the third refugee resettlement agency in the history of Indianapolis.
