Support Our Work
America: Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. Many refugees, who flee from the dangers of their homeland, risk their lives to enter the United States in the hope of a better future. The United States, known for being the world leader in responding to emerging global issues, including providing refugee protection and humanitarian assistance, has welcomed more than 3.6 million immigrants with open arms since 1975. More than as of July 30, 2025, 201,300 Burmese refugees have been admitted to the U.S. since 1990.
Because of the Hoosiers and American tradition of hospitality, today over 31,000 call Indianapolis and 42,000 Burmese Americans call Indiana their home – the largest Burmese population in a single city and a single state in the USA– while more than 356,000 Burmese have now become residents of the USA.
BACI has become a vital community resource hub in assisting newcomers and low-income families with their economic self-sufficiency and success. It has served 35,000+ members of our community already.
BACI main services includes employment training and job placement, college readiness and youth development, health and human services, basic needs assistance, immigrant services and refugee resettlement, citizenship and English language, childcare licensure services, technical assistance to small business, and more.
Advocacy: we advocate for refugee protection & promote community success through comprehensive and innovative approaches — as well as for peace and democracy in Myanmar (Burma) — including through some of the the following programs:
Upward College Program (UCP): we help area high students with their college and career readiness and prepare them for future successes.
Employment & MicroEnterprise Development Program (EMED): we assist newcomers in becoming self-sufficient economically through job placement and training, which allows them to give back to their communities.
Civic and Cultural Education Program (CCEP): we help empower new Americans with security in their rights and liberties through English, Civic Education, and Naturalization services.
Resettlement Programs and Basic Need Assistance Program: Our resettlement programs give families a new start in Indiana and the US. Our goal is to help our new neighbors become self-sufficient as quickly as possible so that they are fully integrated into their new communities, participating and contributing more meaningfully in sustainable ways.
Community Health and Wellness Program (CHWP): To help address the emerging needs in the community particularly in light of the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic, we launched the Community Health and Wellness Program (CHWP) in 2022 and significantly expanded in 2025 by delivering core public health services including Maternal and Child Health, Mental Health and Trauma Prevention, Chronic Disease Prevention, Immunization Program, Health Navigation and Education, and Housing and Transportation Support.
CHWP promotes a healthy community and the wellbeing of members of the community in collaborative partnerships.
BACI Campus/International Community Center Buildings: To strengthen our unique position of being a preeminent resource for creating a stronger, more culturally integrated community for everyone, and to create a HOME for All, a Campus to serve the community better with greater impact, we are developing a community center.
